SUN Gallery Art Call:  Members Show:

Off the Beaten Path

The Sun Gallery will host an exhibition called “Off the Beaten Path”, open to its current and/or new members.  The show dates are June 30 to July 24, 2010, at the Sun Gallery, 1015 E Street in Hayward, California.  We are open Wednesday – Saturday, 11-5, and Friday, 12-6 PM.

We are now calling for submissions of art for this exhibit.  Artwork can be any media including, but not limited to painting, sculpture, glasswork, ceramics, drawing, and assemblage. Artwork will be reviewed for entry digitally or by photo at no cost to the artist.  We apologize to our jewelry artist members, but we cannot accept jewelry for inclusion in this show due to potential security issues.  The deadline for submission of artwork is Friday, June 4, 2010.

 Submission of Works:

You may email your contact information along with your jpeg images.  Jpegs need to be 300 dpi if you would like to have your art considered for the postcard invitation, but 72 is fine for showing us your work and for the web. Please name your files as follows: firstinitial.lastname.title.dpi.jpg.

Tell us the dimensions of your work.

You may also submit via CD. Follow the same guidelines as above.

Due to the nature of our summer classes for children, we cannot accept images of frontal nudity.

Please send us your information and photos, either by email sungallery@comcast.net, or regular mail to 1015 E St., Hayward CA 94541.  Each artist member may show up to three (3) pieces.

If you have any questions, please contact us by email: sungallery@comcast.net, or call 510-581.4050, Wed. to Friday, 12-4.

Upon a successful review of your jpgs or photos, you will be sent a contract and inventory list:

1) A show fee of $25 will include mailed invitations and up to 3 pieces of art not to exceed 24 sq. feet in wall area. You can pick up postcard invitations for your own use at the gallery.  If you are not already a Sun Gallery member, you may join the Gallery at the membership level that applies to you.   See our web site for the levels of membership:  sungallery.org.  (Make checks payable to Sun Gallery.)

2) Artists must identify their work with a label/tag attached to back of the piece with: name, title of the art piece, medium, and price.  This info will be used for the wall labels.  All 2-dimensional work must be wired and ready to hang, matted and framed or edges gallery wrapped and finished. No special installation requirements and no ceiling mounted works are eligible. We reserve the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited or was misrepresented in submission.

3)    You will need to bring a completed inventory sheet, when you drop off the art, with the same info as in #2 above.

4)    If you supply us with one, an artist statement or bio will be displayed in a show book.

5)    Every artist assumes the risk of exhibition. The Gallery will take every precaution (with staffing and our alarm system) to ensure the safety of your pieces, however, we cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to your work while on the gallery premises.  Each artist, if they wish to have it, needs to provide their own personal property insurance.

6)    Sun Gallery will keep a 30% commission on any sale of artwork and pay your sales tax.

7)     No artwork will be removed from the exhibition during the show.

8)      Out of Town Artists:  Artists are responsible for their shipping costs for the show. Work should arrive between Wednesday, June 23 and Saturday, June 26, 2010.  Should your work not sell, you will be responsible for the shipping costs for their return. Work should be shipped in a reusable carton/box or packing crate.  No styrofoam peanuts please!

Include a $10 check payable to Sun Gallery to cover the labor expense for uncrating, storage of crates, re-crating your painting and contracting a shipper for return.  In a separate check, include a check made out to Sun Gallery to cover the cost of return shipping unless you provide you billing account number with a shipping company.  Both checks should be in an envelope inside the crate with your painting.

9)    Local Artists:  Deliver uncrated, ready to hang or show, artwork to the Sun Gallery on the following dates:  Thursday, June 24, 12-3; Friday, June 25, 2-5; or Sat. June 26, 1-4pm.

10)  An artist reception will be planned for Saturday, July 24, 2-5 pm.  This end-of-the-show reception will be a pot-luck and fundraiser for the gallery.  Artists/members will provide the potluck, and guests will be asked to donate $5.00 for a wonderful meal and party celebrating the artists and the end of a wonderful art exhibit!
